DNA testing is a new tool available to family historians - it cannot replace traditional genealogical research using original records, but it can provide confirmation that we have reconstructed our family trees correctly, and used with care can also show us new avenues to explore when trying to knock down those brick walls.

 

The three different types of DNA test available for genealogical purposes are used in different ways, and to work out WHICH test is right for you, it is important to ask yourself 'What do I hope to discover?' and then check that the test you choose is the RIGHT one to answer that question!
