About our project ...

In this section, you can find out more

You will find a list of the most common surnames found in the parish in early records on the FAMILIES page, where you can see which surnames are already represented by project members.

The RESOURCES section is gradually growing - and I hope will eventually include a wealth of information to help you research your Ravenstonedale ancestors.,,, if YOU wish to submit relevant information, please get in touch!

... and a bit about me

grannysue

I have been researching my own and my husband's family history for nearly twenty years, but became so interested in my grandmother's line that I set up a one-name study into the surname ADAMTHWAITE in around 2004 and registered the study with the Guild of One-name Studies in 2007.

As all the early ADAMTHWAITEs lived in Ravenstonedale, that led to further research into the whole parish!  Hence this website, which tries to examine the people and places in this fascinating corner of Cumbria.

I am a member of the Society of Genealogists, the Guild of One-name Studies ad the Society of One-Place Studies.

I have completed numerous on-line genealogy courses at Pharos Tutors over the years, the earlier courses covered various aspects of Genealogy and more recently, in 2015 I completed the Certificate in Family History Skills and Strategies (Intermediate) distance learning course and from 2017-2019 I completed the Advanced Certificate course. These two courses are run in collaboration with the Society of Genealogists.  I thoroughly recommend everyone with an interest in genealogy to attend at least one of their courses (though I warn you, it is addictive!!)
